Buying Clothes On A Budget

One of the things that stinks about being in debt is that much of your money goes towards paying bills. This can cause a problem if you need clothing, because let’s face it, you’re going to need clothing for work. How can you purchase clothing, but be on a budget at the same time? Well, after much thought and many failed trials, I found a way to stay clothed without breaking the bank.

Set Priorities!!!! This is crucial. Prioritize what type of clothing is more important for you to purchase. One example is that I love Star Wars, and I love Star Wars t-shirts, but I can’t wear Star Wars t-shirts to work. Since I spend most of my time at work (Monday-Friday 8-5) the need to have a Star Wars shirt is low. My priority should be dress pants and tops which I will wear all the time.

Yes, it may take you a few months to purchase, but by saving you’re not spending money that should be paying off your student loans. Also, I have a real beef with cheap clothing; I’m not one of those that only buys clothing for their labels, but often you get what you pay for. A cheap shirt may only last a few months where as a slightly more expensive shirt could last for years.

Let’s take a closer look at this thought. Cheap clothing tends to be made cheaply and often isn’t cut correctly. You want to look good in your clothing, right? Even if you can’t afford a Chanel jacket, that’s okay, just really think about what you’re purchasing, is the cut correct, is the material good, where and how will I wear this? By doing so, you may end up not having to purchase clothing as often, and you will have a good wardrobe for work.

Buy The Basics!!!! Make sure you have a foundation for your closet. Have a few good foundational items: dress pants, jeans, and tops. You don’t have to have a ton, but foundational items can be worn in so many different ways creating many different looks. Therefore saving money and not having a ton of clothing that can only be worn one way.

Prepare!!!! Twice a year I clean out my closet and make a list of what I need before setting a budget. I then edit this list by items I want but aren’t budget friendly. Make a well thought out list, yes you want the latest purse from Target and yes you want a pair of glitter heels, but you don’t have the extra money to purchase those. If you need a new bra put that down, if your gray dress pants are worn out put that down. Think your list through and be practical. There will be items you will have to save up for, but that’s okay just keep the list real.

You can still be stylish and be on a budget, but it just means you really have to put a lot of thought and time into going shopping. Do your research into how to purchase clothes and research the stores you’re going to. Look for sales and deals also. There is nothing wrong with going to a well maintained Good Will. You will be surprised at what affordable clothing you will find there.

  1. Great ideas. I swear by thrift stores. It’s amazing what you can find there if you’re patient and a lot if them donate profits to great causes.

  2. During the previous decade or so, an incredible number
of homeowners have either lost their homes, or are facing the possibility of losing their property or other real estate in a foreclosure or short sale.
There are two basic kinds of construction loans: home construction and
commercial construction. It is not uncommon to find carpet, countertops, appliances, and plumbing removed or destroyed.

  3. Two step mortgages have both fixed interest rate at the initial
period and variable interest rate afterwards. The government has tried to tackle
this difficulty in a vogue by adjusting the
Conforming mortgage limit upwards in selected ‘high cost’ areas of the nation.
The economy is going to have a big part in you being able to get this
size of a loan as well.
